Exhibit Designer

Qualifications:

Do you have well developed hand sketching abilities as well as the ability to think outside the box? We are looking for an architect, interior or industrial designer to help our clients plan and design memorable experiences for their visitors. Three to four years professional design experience as well as a proficiency in Vectorworks and Mac based graphic programs is an asset.

Job description:

A. Research
-Works with the Content Developer to identify interpretive resources (objects, stories, images, texts, etc.), and develops a thorough familiarity with subject material.
-Maintains a familiarity with exhibits and techniques used in other institutions.

B. Planning and Design
-Participates in exhibit planning and development from preliminary design through to construction supervision
-Tailors spaces and exhibits to meet clients' objectives, and provide fun and entertaining experiences for visitors
-Works closely with graphics designers to develop visual vocabularies and coordinate the delivery of messages.
-Applies comprehensive working knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes and sources for specialized materials and fabricating services.
-Creates concept sketches, including rendered plans, elevations, exhibit and visitor experience sketches.
-Develops mechanical interactives from concept through constructible design.
-Constructs scale design models.
-Sets up complete drawing sets, from initial cartoon sets through complete working drawings, with consistent and accurate references, and clear notes and instructions.
-Produces the outline and/or complete exhibit specifications, including performance specifications for interactive exhibits and other specialty fabrication.
-Uses Vectorworks to draw plans, elevations, sections and details.

C. Construction Administration
-Monitors the work of exhibit fabricators, reviewing submittals and work in progress, to ensure that design intent is achieved.

D. Presentation and Communication
-Maintains communications with client, consultants and contractors, including clear and professional written correspondence and verbal communications.
-Actively participates in team and client meetings and development workshops.

Graphic Designer

Qualifications:

Do you have a proven ability in conceptualizing, producing exciting designs and generating clean accurate artwork and documentation? Is producing a two hundred page illustrated document in a week a walk in the park for you. A great sense of humour, and a proactive work ethic are the keys to this role. A minimum of three to four years pre-press and print experience in the graphic design industry is required as well as a proficiency in Indesign and Mac.

Job description:

Research
- Works with Content Developers to identify interpretive resources (stories, images, texts, etc.), and develops a thorough familiarity with subject material.

Planning and Design
- Works closely with the exhibit developers and designers to develop a graphics vocabulary and strategy - to structure and convey graphic content effectively and appropriately.
- Produces graphics concepts, sketch illustrations (placeholders) and complete graphics panels.
- Develops presentation materials and documents for marketing, as well as to illustrate and document exhibit and graphic designs.
- Prepares complete and accurate artwork and files for graphics fabricators.

Construction Administration
- Monitors the work of illustrators, artists, and graphics fabricators, reviewing submittals and work in progress.

Project Administration
- Manages time and resources within budget limitations (personal, team, project-wide). At senior levels, directs and supervises other graphics designers.
- Supports and assists other graphic designers in the team.

Presentation and Communication
- Maintains communications with client, consultants and contractors.
- Actively participates in team and client meetings and development workshops.
