'Imiloa Astronomy Center

The challenge of the 'Imiloa Astronomy Center was to marry the stories of Hawaiian cultural traditions to the science of astronomy.

Visitor experiences explore parallels and divergences between Polynesian voyages across the Pacific Ocean and astronomical voyages through space. One exhibit area interprets both a Hawaiian account of the origins of life and a scientific account. A second area casts visitors as modern-day voyagers within the realms of astronomy and Hawaiian culture. Here, visitors can interview canoe builders about the challenges of building a contemporary voyaging canoe or visit the coolest neighborhoods in the cosmos in a 3D theater...Click here for more
