Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center

The Kodiak Refuge Visitor Center tells the story of the legendary Kodiak brown bear and diverse wildlife that inhabit Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge.

A central sculptural exhibit of a female Kodiak bear fishing with her two cubs introduces visitors to the main interpretive gallery. Around this central icon, visitors interact with a range of natural history exhibits. Highlights include viewing the salmon death cycle within an elevated stream, listening to a denning bear's heartbeat, identifying Island birds and hearing stories from salmon.

These pictures show the exhibits that Aldrich Pears designed to interpret the story of the Second World War battles fought on Saipan between American and Japanese forces. Through the use of historical photographs and artifacts the museum designers have created a compelling visitor experience that takes visitors back to the war as experienced by both sides and the indigenous people of Saipan.
