Lions On The Edge

Victoria's Open Range Zoo wanted to provide visitors with a first hand look at an African lion habitat. Through this experience, visitors develop a better appreciation of Africa's unique conservation challenges.

The Lions on the Edge exhibit involved creating an outdoor interpretive experience that looks and feels like the real thing. A fictional wildlife preserve was designed to mimic grasslands and a dry river environment. Visitors explore a native village, follow a lion's tracks and come face-to-face with lions lounging on top of a ranger's truck. This immersive setting features African-themed signage, naturalists' journals and wildlife posters.
