The Vancouver Museum wanted to rethink its aging galleries with a focus on how Vancouver's communities changed over time.
Four distinct galleries focus on the events and people that defined each period. The early 1900s gallery glows with optimism, contrasted with the challenges faced by an increasingly multicultural city. In the '20s to 40s gallery, compelling images, quotations and artifacts reflect the restless years of a city caught between two world wars. The '50s gallery is upbeat, featuring bright colors, neon signs and plastic-fantastic modern life.
