Vancouver Museum

Tracking change over time

The Vancouver Museum wanted to rethink its aging galleries with a focus on how Vancouver's communities have changed over time.

Four distinct galleries focus on the events and people that define each period. The early 1900s gallery highlights the tension between optimism about development and the tensions of an increasingly multicultural city. In the '20s to '40s gallery, compelling images, quotations and artifacts communicate the restless years of a city caught between two world wars. The '50s gallery is upbeat, featuring bright colours, glowing neon signs and the trappings of a plastic-fantastic modern life. The Revolution Gallery immerses visitors in the political strife of the psychedelic '60s and '70s.

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia
